Okay, so I’ve recovered from the coronary after I saw that Sarah Palin had written notes on her hand for her major keynote speech for the Tea Party Convention in Nashville this weekend. One of the interesting things is what she wrote.
Budget Tax Cuts
You can see that she’s crossed out Budget Cuts that would reduce spending and deficits, and replaced it with Tax Cuts. Boy is that indicative of something. Tax Cuts are popular, Budget Cuts aren’t. Why? Because you have to talk about what you’ll cut and no one likes seeing their Ox gored.
The Republican Party has done a thoroughly lousy job about talking about what they’d do to work on deficit reduction. They haven’t talked about spending cuts, they haven’t talked about elimination of some programs, or changing the way they’re paid for, they just want their tax cut. All rhetoric, NO policy.
They’re out of ideas, and it makes me so sad. I’m for budget cuts. As much as it’s tough to choose, someone’s got to man up and tell the American people that we’re managing the government’s budget like a meth dealer with credit cards, and that countries can’t go around declaring bankruptcy. So, we have to decide: spending cuts, or tax increases. Across the board tax increases, too, not just on those earning more than $250k.
